From Yenbuba village on Pulau Mansuar, Robben is the owner of Koranu Fyak Homestay on Pulau Kri (Mansuar Kecil). We were so taken with Robben's quiet professionalism, infectious smile and knowledge of the islands and ocean life of the region around Gam, Mansuar and Waigeo that we paid him to accompany us for every day of our two week stay.

Robben has got to be one of the best guides in the area, with powers of observation that continually astounded us. He'd point out the tiniest pipefish hiding in the half light of soft coral fronds, draw our attention to almost invisible transparent jellies floating in the big blue and instantly spot manta rays breaching in the extremes of his peripheral vision. His ability to spot the tiniest denizens of the reef was so good that on a couple of occasions he pointed at something I hadn't seen yet, then had to grab my arm and haul me back when I, looking for yet another infinitesimal creature, had shoved my face perilously close to the large moray eel (or similar) that he had actually indicated.
